Nissan Super Bowl Commercials Recap

We are just weeks away from Super Bowl LVIII, a time when friends and family come together to eat delicious food, socialize, watch their team win the Lombardi trophy, and see what fun commercials the corporate world has up its sleeve. Super Bowl commercials are an integral part of the Super Bowl experience, captivating audiences and leaving a lasting impression on viewers around the world.

Did you know that Nissan has been putting in commercials for the Super Bowl since 1990? Their very first Super Bowl commercial was called “Dreamer”- Which is a fun cinematic retelling of a dream from a Nissan 300ZX Turbo owner who is being pursued by motorcycles and planes, yet they can not catch him because of the twin turbos kicking in.

The next commercial was in 1997 with “Pigeon”- this was an action movie spoof of the movie Top Gun involving animated pigeons chasing after a Nissan Maxima in an effort to target it after it had been freshly washed. It pays tribute to the movie Top Gun with similar music and fighter jets locking on to their target. This commercial actually made it into Jalopnik’s list of Top 11 Super Bowl Commercials of all time. They said,It is a great example of the company putting out simple, hilarious and compelling narrative spots. The concept is completely relatable, the animation is hilarious, and it makes the Maxima look great. (Matt Hardigree)

Nissan didn’t come out with another Super Bowl commercial again until 2015 called “#withdad.” This one pulled on the audience’s heartstrings. The commercial is about a Nissan racecar driver and his son. He is busy racing and not being able to watch his son grow up. They have the song Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin playing in the background as we watch the father get into an accident on the racetrack and further watch the mother having to be a single mother as their little boy grows up. The father decides to hang up his racing helmet and comes to surprise pick up his son at school. He is driving a Nissan of course, they embrace and drive away.

The last Super Bowl commercial that Nissan produced was in 2022 called “Thrill Driver”. This featured Eugene Levy, Brie Larson, Catherine O’Hara and Dave Bautista. Brie Larson comes onto a movie set with Eugene Levy and lets him test out her new Nissan Z sports car while he is on the road. While driving, he sees Catherine O’Hara in a Nissan Aryia. Then gets into a fantasy world where he is an action star for a movie “Thrill Driver” with Brie Larson stating at the end of the movie that she will drive. The ad takes Eugene Levy from suave and suited to tattooed and tough in a matter of seconds. It’s the trailer for the movie that unfortunately you’ll never get to see, but by the end, you’ll be craving for a feature-length film, a Netflix series, and a Thrill Driver poster on your bedroom wall.

Maybe these commercials have inspired you to purchase a new vehicle. Whether you are a parent, commuter, racecar driver, or are looking for a new vehicle, we have a vehicle to suit your style. Shop our new and used vehicles at Dream Nissan.
